Harper's BAZAAR Dec 2018

Harper’s BAZAAR December issue devoted to conservation

The December issue of Harper’s BAZAAR celebrates a unique collaboration between the luxury lifestyle title and Australia’s iconic Taronga Zoo.

Fronted by Australian supermodel and mother of two, Gemma Ward, the December issue is devoted to raising awareness to the work of Taronga Zoo, and the newly established Taronga Institute of Science and Learning, undertake in conservation.

As Acting Editor Eugenie Kelly acknowledges, “These aren’t the usual topics we tackle at BAZAAR, but if we want future generations of Australians to grow up to the hum of cicadas and be able to paddle alongside dolphins during a morning surf, we need to do something to stop the extinctions affecting every inch of the planet.”

The issue features a stunning cover and main fashion editorial with Gemma Ward, shot by BAZAAR favourite Georges Antoni.

The December issue saw the BAZAAR team head west to drought-affected Dubbo for a ‘Zoofari’ inspired shoot at Taronga’s Western Plains Zoo. Gemma sat down with BAZAAR’s Associate Editor Eliza O’Hare to discuss comebacks, motherhood and the importance of preserving the natural environment for future generations.

In addition, the new issue introduces the women at the forefront of Australia’s conservation movement. Veterinary pathologist Dr Karrie Rose, zoo and wildlife nutritionist Michelle Shaw, and wildlife researcher and pathology coordinator Dr Phoebe Meagher are three scientists at the forefront of Taronga Zoo’s new $30.7 million Taronga Institute of Science & Learning and appear in a thought-provoking editorial, Leaders of the Pack.

The Harper’s BAZAAR December issue is on sale Monday 19th November.
