|Position//||Business Director at PHD, Melbourne|
What’s your current position? How long have you been in this position?
I’ve been the Business Director of the ANZ Bank (Australia) account for the past two (2) years
What was your first job in media?
My first job in media was an assistant in the mayor of London’s press office back in 2000. I stayed in the media relations world for about 3 years before shifting to the advertising side of things at a small media agency in Melbourne.
What's the next skill or knowledge set you want to add to your repertoire?
I’ve become more interested in the business of media over the last couple of years. How do you win business? How do you ensure existing business is profitable? How can you generate incremental revenue through the provision of additional services?
What’s the best/worst thing to happen since you started working?
Best thing: Moving to PHD Melbourne and being a part of something new. It’s been exciting! Worst thing: Dodgy post-impression conversions.
What is your favourite magazine?
Trade-A-Boat – The search for the perfect boat never ends.
What do you do when you aren't working?
As the father of a 2yr old girl, I spend a fair bit of my spare time chasing her around playgrounds.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
What was the last campaign you did with magazines?
We did a nice magazine campaign recently for ANZ Card Security. Taking the idea that the ANZ Falcon protects you from credit card fraud by looking out for unusual transactions, we worked with publishers to create magazine executions that asked readers to look out for unusual magazine activity: The tweed coat in a profile of summer fashion, that sort of thing. It worked really well.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be Peter Brock; didn’t everyone?
What makes you laugh?
People who think media should be planned on consumption alone.
If you were on the cover of a magazine, which one?
