Melissa Roberts

Name// Melissa Roberts
Position// Managing Director at Huckleberry Agency
What’s your current position?
How long have you been in this position?
Managing Director – 3 years
What do you find most challenging about your role?
Car parking allocations – a perennial pain point! I’m hoping to get all our team skateboarding to work instead – so much easier.
How did you get your first job in Media?
Working in production, I realised all the good parties were elsewhere – the media department. I stalked the head of media and soon got a better gig!
If you could do any job what would it be?
Winery artist in residence
If you could change one thing about your role what would it be?
See car parking, above. Other than that, I wouldn’t change it for anything – we work with so many interesting and talented people there is never a minute to get bored (or, sadly, read a magazine sometimes!).
What is your favourite magazine?
Grazia – I love the fashion and don’t mind a bit of celeb gossip for occasional relief from the spreadsheets… but for a local title Elle is now my favourite. Also home magazines to help with the renovations
Do you have a work/life balance?
Some weeks yes, some weeks not so much!
What was the last campaign you did with magazines?
Huckleberry Agency does a lot across the Simplot portfolio
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
Most Saturdays I’m elbow-deep in oil paints. I’ve held a couple of art shows and people even bought some of the paintings, I think.
Best compliment you’ve ever received?
‘Straight-talking, no bullshit, a rare commodity in advertising’
Best magazine cover you’ve seen?
Time Magazine has some interesting covers that draw you in
