Jackson Graham

Name// Jackson Graham
Position// Strategist at MEC
What’s your current position? How long have you been in this position?
I joined MEC in 2010 and have spent the past 8 months as a Strategist in the Strategy and Insight team.
What was your first job in Media?
My first job in media began 24 hours after my final assignment was handed into university, I arrived in a suit and was almost laughed from the building. As an executive in the Analytics and Insights team (of 2) I was exposed to everything from social media, research, insights, implementation/planning and strategy. I like to think I’ve learnt a lot, but I still get ridiculed for my dress sense, so possibly not.
Tell me about someone who has influenced your career?
Being fortunate enough to have had the same boss for my entire media career, I’d have to say James Hier (MEC, Chief Strategy Officer).

Whether it’s learning from any of the amazing team he’s constructed or my faint hope that I will learn something from his impressive library of textbooks through pure osmosis, I have no doubt that without his infectious passion and wealth of experience I’d be lucky to have discovered the industry and area I can see myself in for many years to come.
How do you describe your job to your friends outside media?
I’ve given up. But from the little I tell them, it’s only ever tell the good bits.
What is your favourite magazine?
VICE Magazine.
What do you do when you aren't working?
As a country boy originally I try to get out of the city as often as I can. I love getting back to the farm to see my family but sadly it does not happen enough.
What was the last campaign you did with magazines?
Palmolive Ayurituel.
Best compliment you've ever received?
“Your ideas have gotten a lot better since you grew a beard”. Yep. That’s as good as it gets.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a musician. Until I realised that as a classical musician, I’d be living off my parents for the rest of my life.
Best magazine ad you’ve seen?
Volkswagen Park Assist Technology ads as part of the 'Nightmare spots’ campaign are probably my favourite magazine ads. Amazing work from DDB Sydney.
