Publishers Australia Media Release:
Publishers Australia and Magazine Publishers of Australia unite to lift professional standards and the profile of the industry
In a breakthrough for the Australian magazine publishing industry, Magazine Publishers of Australia (MPA) is to become a member of Publishers Australia (PA), a move that will enable the organisations to share resources and provide a combined voice on matters of importance to their members.
PA chairman Geoff Hird announced the alliance to the 420 guests attending its annual Excellence Awards in Sydney today. “The MPA becoming a member of Publishers Australia is a testament to the progress our association has made over the past 18 months. The alliance will enable us to build a broader range of activities and services for our members, especially in the areas of training and research,” he said.
“The combined resources will produce exciting initiatives to boost awareness of the industry, support the growing membership of PA and provide a more active platform of services for MPA members.”
ACP Magazines, Lovatts Publications (already a PA member), News Magazines, Pacific Magazines, and Reader’s Digest will join under the MPA umbrella with immediate effect. Content will be shared across the associations’ websites and MPA members will be invited to attend PA’s networking events across the country.
The shared mission is a commitment to promoting and protecting the interests of the $2billion magazine and digital publishing industry in Australia. Members will have access to the best of both associations to guide them through the dynamic media landscape.
MPA chairman Nick Chan said: “The alliance will allow the associations to leverage their individual strengths and work towards greater market presence for the magazine industry. It provides new opportunities to convey the message that magazines are in robust health and continue to be engaging, first-tier media channels for consumers and advertisers.”
Magazine Week
The first joint initiative organised by MPA and PA is Australian Magazine Week, to be held in Sydney on 7-11 November 2011.
The landmark event will attract leading international voices to host advertising and editorial workshops, professional development courses (such as the FIPP Digital Publishing Certificate) and a constellation of activities for magazine and digital publishers.
Australian Magazine Week will feature keynotes, panels and discussions on hot topics with industry insiders, culminating in the Publishers Australia Excellence Awards, which acknowledge and reward best practices and outstanding quality in Australia’s magazine and digital publishing industry.
