Magazine audiences rebound in many sectors

A pick up in magazine sales for the period ending December 2009 is evident across many sectors in the latest ABC industry release.

Total sales were up on the previous interval in the Home and Lifestyle category, which rose 4.7% in total average net paid sales; Major Monthlies up 7.7%; Food and Entertaining, up 1.8%; Gardening, up 0.1%; Sporting, up 6.1%.

Average net paid sales of Fashion titles also edged higher, up 0.5% in total on the previous period to June 2009. Motoring magazines increased sales, up 2.1%, while the Teen segment jumped 3.1%.

In the big selling Women’s Weeklies segment, the dip in total average net paid sales of 2.1% for the October to December quarter signalled improving market conditions after a turbulent year.

Total average net paid sales for the magazine market were up 0.6% on the previous period*.
